Yuki’s First Japanese Supper Club

Yuki Supper Club 630x472 Yuki’s First Japanese Supper ClubSince my move here last September, I have been dreaming of running a supper club and last Thursday Alex and I finally opened the front door to 14 guests for the first one. Decorating had held us up, but the living room is the ideal location for pop-up dining; we were happy to see it brought to life and busy on the night. I hope you like the pictures, it was pouring down outside which gave the night a great atmosphere and we had laid the tables with flowers cut from the garden.

I served a surprising Tofu dip as an appetiser, surprising because it is often mistaken for Houmous but is actually a more nutritious Japanese variation. This was followed by different types of hand-rolled sushi including Temari sushi and Bo Sushi. For the main course, I cooked Salmon and Mackerel in a Namban sauce topped with a relish, with Green beans plus black sesame seed sauce as a side . For dessert; Tokyo Mess, my own variation of the English classic Eton Mess with ingredients including Azuki bean paste and cream infused with Macha green tea.

Inspired by the first, we are now planning the next one, so watch this space for dates and the menu. It will be taking place this summer perhaps just before the Olympics start and weather permitting we hope to venture outside for a welcome drink this time; details to follow. See you at the next!
